Volunteer at Our Running Events
Our running events simply wouldn’t happen without the incredible support of volunteers.
From guiding runners around the course to helping at water stations, volunteers play a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and memorable experience for every participant. Whether you’re a runner looking to give something back, someone who enjoys being outdoors, or you just want to be part of the buzz of race day without running it, volunteering is a brilliant way to support your local community.
What Makes a Great Marshal or Volunteer
Being a volunteer is about helping runners have the best possible race experience.
Great volunteers:
-
Offer encouragement and support to runners – it lifts their spirits and makes the day more enjoyable for everyone.
-
Clap, cheer, and motivate participants with phrases like “Great job!”, “Looking strong!”, “Keep going!”
-
Stay alert and proactive to help keep the event safe and running smoothly.
-
Represent Exeter City Community Trust in a professional, friendly, and welcoming way.

What We Need From You
If you’re able to volunteer at one of our races, we’d love to hear from you. Even if you can only spare a couple of hours, your help makes a huge difference and helps us plan volunteer cover across the course.
When signing up, please let us know:
-
Your email and phone number
-
Whether you have first aid training and its expiry date
We aim to have at least one first aid trained volunteer at each aid station. However, you do not need first aid training to volunteer – everyone is welcome.
With your permission, we may also keep your details to contact you about future events.
How We’ll Support You
We want all our volunteers to feel confident and prepared.
You will receive:
-
Pre-event information explaining your role and location
-
A race day briefing and course map
-
Support from the event team throughout the day
-
The opportunity to be paired with experienced volunteers if you’re new
We also encourage volunteers to join our Facebook community to stay up to date with race news and event updates.
What You’ll Receive in Return
As a thank you for volunteering, you will receive a free race entry code for a future event of your choice or a free day pass for a kids Holiday Club.
And importantly, you’ll experience the incredible atmosphere of race day and play a key role in helping hundreds or thousands of runners achieve their goals.

Waterproofs

Community Groups & Corporate Volunteering
Volunteering is a fantastic way to experience the energy of race day, meet new people, and support your community. It’s also a great opportunity for young people to gain experience for CVs, college, or university applications.
We are also keen to work with:
Community Groups & Youth Organisations
If your club, school, or group would like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you.
Businesses & Corporate Teams
Our events provide excellent opportunities for Employer Supported Volunteering (ESV) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Bringing a team along is a great way to spend time outside the office while supporting a meaningful local event.
