Parasport Development Officer Dan Hewitt took his Opportunity Club team to the Manadon Sports Hub yesterday, to compete in the ‘Every Player Counts Mental Health Tournament.’ The team, consisting of players from our Supported Housing Scheme.
The players, who participate each week at the Opportunity Club, competed against sides from ‘It’s A Goal,’ the Amber Foundation and Plymouth Hamaoze.
The team played four games, winning one and Goalkeeper Nat was awarded ‘Goalkeeper of the Day’ for a fantastic performance in the City goal. It was especially pleasing to see City Community Trust programmes combine, as many of the participating players are currently placed within our Supported Housing Scheme, have benefited from the Opportunity Club and now have the chance to play under the Exeter City badge. Participants representing the Amber Foundation also benefit from attending the Tuesday Opportunity Club sessions at Wonford Sports Centre.
Head of Wellbeing and Inclusion Danny Harris was delighted with the day. “It was a great opportunity for our players to compete in a competition and to feel part of a team. The social element of participating in an event such as this is significant, it was a positive, inclusive, experience and played in good spirits. We would like to thank Ashley Harris for organising the event and look forward to returning with even more teams in the future.”
